"Well."
She smiles, almost coy.
"Your accent is funny."

That makes him laugh, and he pinches her lightly.
"So is yours, Sassenach. All British and
proper
."

Claire smiles at his laughter, grinning then when she's pinched.
"Neither of our accents is as funny as our daughter's, though."
That strange mix of British and Scottish.

"The puir lass's voice doesna ken what it wants to be," he says with more laughter, shaking his head.
"She sounds so
grown
now, Sassenach."

"Oh, I think it's cute. And it won't be too odd when she has siblings that sound just like her."
Claire drinks some more of her tea, then sighs.
"I can't believe she's almost six."

"Two whole hands, Sassenach." He sounds so distressed about it.
"When did she get so big?"

"You know, comparatively, she's rather small."
Just saying. Bree doesn't seem to be gifted with either her height nor Jamie's, but who knows? She might have a growth spurt.

"Give her time," he chuckles.
"But ye ken what I meant. I feel as though we blinked and now we have a wee
person
. No' a babe anymore."

"With opinions and everything."
God help them once she gets even older, and realizes just how persuasive she can be.

"Imagine what
her
stubbornness is going to be like, once she truly gets going?" Jamie says with an arch of an eyebrow.
"If she's like Jenny was, ye better become a prayin' woman, Sassenach. Dinna think i could persuade God on my own prayers alone."
He's mostly teasing. But Jenny did, aloud, yell about grabbing him by the balls when she wanted him to listen.

See? He's hilarious, and Claire laughs while giving him a peck on the cheek.
"Oh, please. She adores you and listens to your every word."
Usually.

Jamie grunts, finishing his tea and setting his cup aside. Now, he can hold onto her with both arms, so he does.
"All children dinna mind well at times," he points out.

"True, but ours is rather well-behaved, don't you agree? Even considering who her father is?"
Claire's been making the same joke for five years. Stop her.

"Mm, no. I don't think so."

"If ye say so, Sassenach," Jamie decides.
He knows when to stop, sometimes.

"That's your way of letting me know I'm right, isn't it?" She likes that.

"Exactly, Sassenach," he says with a soft smile, rocking slowly back and forth in the char--not enough to jostle her tea.
"When ye're right, ye're right."

"Good man. Maybe Bree does get some obedience from you," she teases, working some more on that tea. If she's in a hurry now, it's because she'd like to wrap her arms around him for a little while before Bree wakes.

Once he can, his arms go around her and the tartan gets re-arranged and draped again to cover both of them.
And if he decides it's time to make out a little, well. That's the point.
